Major Bedfordshire Distribution Hub Site Acquired for Co-Op
Giles Thomas from Matthews & Goodman’s national business space team has acquired a 660,000 sq ft site in Biggleswade Bedfordshire on behalf of the The Co-op.
The unit, which will be developed by DB Symmetry, will be a cross docked unit set on a 48-acre site and will consolidate The Co-Op’s existing distribution network, as well as accommodate the Group’s expansion. It will service the retailer’s growing network of convenience stores in north London, south Midlands and east Anglia and will create over 1200 new jobs.
As one of only eight units across the UK, The Co-Op’s ambition is that its enhanced infrastructure will allow it to compete more aggressively in the highly competitive food retail market, by ensuring its communities have access to good quality produce, at a highly competitive price.
It is anticipated that construction will begin towards the end of 2019.
Matthews & Goodman previously advised on the acquisition of a 100,000 sq ft unit in Thurrock on behalf of The Co-op and continues to support the firm on it’s expansion trail in the South East and beyond.
